Tennents Caledonian Cup
The Caledonian Cup was the creation of William Waddell, In 1974 Rangers had been invited to participate in Barcelona’s prestigious pre season tournament Joan Gamper Trophy. Waddell was impressed with the format and decided that Rangers should hold there own event. The competition was the first of its kind in British football and ran for 4 years. Throughout its yeart history the occasion was sponsored by brewers Tennents who provided a magnificent trophy worth L1000.
